That’s right, Milo Yiannopoulos will be here in Berkeley tonight, by which I really mean, Milo gets protested tonight.
If there’s one thing you should know about Berkeley its that our football team might not have been too great over the last decade, but our protesting team is number 1.
The alt-right shitstorm masquerading as a news outlet, Breitbart, the only place on the internet racist enough to hire Milo, has made a big deal over the last few days about the protests planned, focusing mainly on the groups that don’t want Milo to speak at all.
The truth is, however, that the majority of us here want him to speak. UC Berkeley is the birthplace of the free speech movement in the 1960’s and something we are incredibly proud of. All morning I have spoken to my peers about tonight and the overwhelming sentiment is that we do not want to restrict his speech.
Our goal, rather, is to show that we oppose his message. That the vitriolic hate he spews from his bully pulpit do not resonate with us or the majority of the American people.
I will be there tonight, not yelling that he shouldn’t be allowed, but yelling that we reject his hatred. I reject the small-minded ideology of the Alt-right, that he represents.
I will Protest, and I hope you will join me.
